As cash flows in the wind energy, jobs will follow?

    nina Published in the 15:33:35

The day after the federal government contract valued at $ 500 million in renewable energy projects, the American Wind Energy Association points to a study which concludes that the investment will lead to a "green collar" as expected.

U.S. Treasury and Energy departments said Tuesday that the 12 renewable energy projects, 10 of them in the wind, were awarded cash grants, a step intended to bring the financiers back to the U.S. industry and the wind create a manufacturing and construction.

on Wednesday, AWEA said the new study shows that the government stimulus money spent on the wind when it comes to creating jobs. In particular, the industry supported by the Association to review the National Renewable Energy Department of Energy Laboratory, which contradicts previous studies that showed that the Spanish wind and solar policy actually resulted in fewer jobs.

That previous research dates back to March, when researchers Spanish King Juan Carlos University concluded that for every job created by Spain's aggressive renewable energy policy, on average, 2.2 jobs would be "destroyed." The study (click for PDF in English), referring to people who oppose the use of Spain as a model for U.S. energy policy.

Reasons for the analysis is that nonsubsidized investment will create jobs at a lower price. He expects that "green job" in Spain costs more than doubled, and average capital per worker in the private sector.

Analysis of the Spanish job creation is not quite fold, depending on the response of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, which was published in August. (Click for PDF.) NREL found fault in how the King of Spain Juan Carlos University study calculated the loss of work, saying that more traditional methods found the net profit for the energy policy in Europe.

In addition, NREL researchers said that the Spanish study did not take into account the value of creating industries with export potential. Many industrial areas of the U.S. with auto experience, for example, are trying to move to the production of wind turbines. He also said that there are limitations on applying the lessons of the Spanish labor market in other countries.

But even in its rebuttal, NREL researchers acknowledge that it is fair to ask whether the net increased wind and solar energy more jobs. In the U.S. Senate is considering establishing a national renewable energy on the production of public services or to inflate one passed by the House earlier this year.

Coelom NREL found that prices for traditional energy is a key factor in determining public policy support for renewable energy, clean positive impact on job creation. "With increasing awareness of potential scenarios of energy prices, recent studies have shown that it is only when conventional energy prices are projected to be very low, the net impact on the work of (renewable energy) investment negatively," the study says .
