Sprint Nextel has launched a new service plan on Thursday that let subscribers make unlimited calls to any U.S. mobile phone without using voices to a minute.
For just $ 69.99 a month, any new mobile, Anytime plan allows subscribers to call any mobile phone in the U.S., regardless of carrier. The plan also comes with all of Sprint's data, which includes unlimited text messaging and data transmission. Subscribers also get 450 minutes for voice calls to landlines. Subscribers have already signed on the plan, all data will be automatically updated to the new plan Anytime Mobile. And the family plan for four people will cost $ 170.
"We do not believe that our customers want to track, or just chat with friends, colleagues or family members who make the same choice they make," Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint, said in a statement.
A flat rate voice plan at a time when the unlimited prepaid services have put pressure on the young national providers such as Sprint. Some prepaid phone services, such as MetroPCS and Cricket Wireless offers unlimited calling for $ 45 per month or less. Earlier this year, Sprint announced it was buying Virgin Mobile, the other prepaid wireless service that offers flat rate pricing, to get a bigger piece of the prepaid.
But even before the fixed prepaid plans became popular, big four national operators of mobile phones have begun to offer unlimited voice bundle. Over a year ago, Verizon Wireless was the first to declare a $ 99.99 unlimited voice rate plan after AT & T and T-Mobile. Sprint was the last of the "big four" to announce their unlimited tariff plan, but now offers the most comprehensive plan. For $ 99.99, just all the Sprint plan offers customers unlimited voice minutes, data, text, email, web surfing, Sprint TV, Sprint Music, GPS-navigation, and Push-To-Talk.
Any new mobile, Anytime plan essentially discounts the service for subscribers who only talk to other users of cell phones for $ 30.
This step is that all mobile to mobile voice minutes of the flat rate plan is yet another indication that voice revenues are squeezed in the market of cellular phones. This is good news for consumers who can see the resistance to competitors with lower prices for their plans. But probably the big players such as AT & T and Verizon Wireless, probably add more mobility to the mobile features of their existing plans, rather than lowering their prices, said analyst Craig Moffett of Sanford Bernstein.
Clearly, Sprint is using this new pricing plan as a way to stop the bloodshed clients. Even if the company already offers some of the lowest prices and comprehensive plans on the market, customers were running sprints to go to other carriers for several quarters. As part of its total subscriber base decreased with each passing quarter, mobile-mobile plan, which allows customers to call other customers Sprint has little value for customers.
In a sense, new services, like T-MyFaves program Mobile, which allows users to make unlimited calling to frequently called numbers on any network. AT & T announced its own version of this type of plan at the beginning of this week, which she calls "A-List. And Verizon Wireless has a similar plan called friends and family.
While the new pricing structure could help save some Sprint customers, you probably have to pay a high price for the company. Moffett postulates in a research note written Friday, that some subscribers are high-Sprint is already subscribed for $ 99 simply everything plan can reduce to any mobile phone, Anytime plan, which would slash the company's revenues.
Moreover, the new Sprint service is essentially encouraging customers to make more calls to other cell phone carriers, which means that Sprint will have to pay the cost of connecting those calls, Moffet said in his note.
"By stimulating demand for outgoing calls to wireless, the company is effectively open the door to an increase in fees wireless solution, which is above the law than wired termination charges, he said.
At least now, Sprint believes that compromise is ready to risk it, because the company is trying to repair tarnished reputation. Despite the fact that various surveys show that Sprint has improved its service and customer service, the company is still unable to shake its bad reputation.
